Self Service

Self Service

Do you know what self service is? Self service is the practice of serving oneself, usually when purchasing items. For example, vending machines, self checkouts, and DVD rental machines are all devices that operate without a person doing it for you. All of these things are commonly found all throughout America. Did you know some countries don't have these? An example of this is in Colombia.

In Colombia, there is some ,but not much self service. You rarely find some self checkouts ,like at Wal Mart, but there are no vending machines. So if you won't to get something small, you will probly have to walk to the nearest corner store in which there would be no self checkout. If you were to go there, you would be a little dumbfounded to the changes as well as them, if they came to America.

Self service items can make proccesses go much faster. They can also make more mony for the company who uses them. These things are great, but self service also has disatvantages. An example of this is that they cause unemployment because they take the job of the person who did it before. Another example is that, as I said before, it can cause confusion if you never seen it before. As you can see, self service has it's advantages and disadvantages, but I personaly like self service items because it's apart of my daily life.

So in conclusions, self service is apart of many peoples daily lives and isn't in others. For example, America has self service gas stations while in Colombia, some poor areas don't. You can be for it or against it beacause there are many advantages and disadvantages and plus, it's your decision.

Stereotypes

People are judged a lot throughout the world. This is called stereotyping. A stereotype is a commonly held popular belief about specific social groups or types of individuals. Stereotypes often start off as a belief about someone that is then said about a similar person. This is almost never true about the other person but people still believe it.

There are good and bad stereotypes though. A good stereotype is a positive belief about a group while a bad stereotype is a negative or hurtful belief about a group. Even though I think stereotypes are bad all together, good ones are kind of okay.
As I said earlier, stereotyping is all around the world. Since I only believe is some good stereotyping, I have a few for you. I will start of with my home country, America.
Us Americans are told that we live to work and have lots of freedom.
Then I will go to Hindus where they are said to be the best people in the world.
Next are Hispanics who are said to be very hardworking and loving people.
Second to last, we have East Asian people who are told to have the most desirable women and very smart men.
Lastly, we have British people who are said to speak the best English.

In conclusions, stereotypes are used every throughout the world, whether they are good or bad. To be careful or safe, to me, you should always avoid stereotypes because all you are doing is judging a book by it's cover. The only way you should use a stereotype is by researching it until you make it a fact.
